Hi everyone!

We are the Oxford Energy Society (OES), a student society focused on the science and policy driving the energy transition. We are a multi-disciplinary collective, regularly hosting talks, challenges, and networking socials with the leading voices and companies in the energy space.

This year we have a packed calendar of free events open to all, starting with welcome drinks at the King's Arms on Wednesday (we have a bar tab!). You can see our full Michaelmas term card on our Instagram, but some of the headlines include:

  1. Energy security hackathon, week 7:

In partnership with the Oxford Engineering Department, Hildebrand Technologies and Energy Systems Catapult, we will be hosting a hackathon focused on making energy data safer and more secure. Students will work alongside academics and industry professionals (including representatives from National Grid, Octopus Energy, and Imperial to name a few!) to build models that can identify households from an anonymised dataset, and to learn how the layers of defence work. It is a chance to meet professionals, learn about energy data and compete for prizes! Minimal coding or data experience required. Register your interest here: https://forms.cloud.microsoft/e/WLw4uVGE7U.

  1. In conversation with Professor Dieter Helm, week 6:

One of the leading voices on the economics of the energy transition, Professor Helm has advised UK and European governments, regulators and companies for decades, authored the government’s Cost of Energy Review, and chaired the Natural Capital Committee. Join us for an engaging conversation about his new book, Climate Realism: Facing the Facts about Energy, and where the energy transition goes from here.
