Tension-induced giant actuation in unstructured elastic sheets. Kexin Guo, Marc Suñé, Kwok Ming Li, K Jimmy Hsia, Mingchao Liu, Dominic Vella. https://arxiv.org/pdf/2408.14239

Research interests

My research is concerned with the mechanics of thin elastic objects, with particular focus on the interplay of elastic instabilities, surface tension and thermal fluctuations. I use a mix of mathematical methods to gain physical insight into idealisations of natural systems (e.g. composite materials and animal locomotion) as well as engineered objects (e.g. mechanical metamaterials).
