Applicants are normally expected to be predicted or have achieved a first-class degree (or equivalent international qualifications), as a minimum, in mathematics or a related discipline.
The requirement for a first class degree with honours can be alternatively demonstrated by a strong degree at master's level.
For applicants with a degree from the USA the minimum GPA sought is 3.7 out of 4.0. If you hold non-British qualifications, you are advised to check how your qualifications match these requirements with the National Recognition Information Centre for the United Kingdom (UK NARIC).
The InFoMM CDT has at least 12 fully-funded studentships for October 2018 start, covering all fees and providing a maintenance grant (over £14,500) to support living expenses for the four years. Of these, up to four studentships will be available to applicants regardless of nationality. The remaining studentships are restricted to UK/EU nationals. We will automatically assign students to funding and no separate application for funding is required
The InFoMM CDT would also be pleased to receive applications from students who have their own funding.

Interviews and Selection
Interviews for shortlisted candidates will take place within four weeks of each deadline, and shortlisted candidates will be informed at least a week before their interviews. The interviews can take place face-to-face, by telephone, or by Skype.
Shortlisted candidates will have two interviews with Oxford staff and will involve technical questions. These questions will cover a range of relevant mathematical topics (including, for example, differential equations and applied linear algebra) and candidates will need to work through these with the interviewers. There will also be questions about why the candidate wishes to join the CDT and an opportunity for candidates to ask questions. Shortlisted candidates will be expected to come to Oxford for their interviews unless they are overseas, in which case we will arrange Skype interviews. There will be opportunities on interview days to meet with current Oxford Mathematics Students.

What type of mathematics background should I have?
The majority of our current students have completed an undergraduate masters degree or MSc in mathematics . Successful applicants have also studied theoretical physics, computer science, engineering and natural sciences and we welcome applications from top students in mathematical related subjects. Our students come from all over the world including UK, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Korea, Norway, Romania, Spain, South Africa, and USA.
Familiarity with a subset of differential equations, numerical techniques, applied linear algebra, scientific computing, discrete mathematics, and mathematical models will give you a good grounding. What does a full scholarship funding entail?
A full scholarship covers all your fees for four years of study. It also includes a maintenance grant of over £14,500 a year which will cover all of your living expenses. The maintenance grant is paid into your account four times per annum. When should I apply?
As with most things; the sooner the better. However, it is essential that overseas students apply by the end of January application date to be able to be considered for the full range of funding available.

Do I need to contact potential supervisors before applying?
No, this is not necessary. InFoMM CDT students focus on their courses over the first nine months. When they come to choose their research project from that years profolio, supervisors are already attached to the project.
If my application is succesful I will need accommodation in Oxford, how would I arrange this?
Oxford offers a wide range of accommodation options to graduate students, both privately and within the University, to suit a variety of needs and living arrangements. Many colleges are able to offer accommodation to their graduate students for all or part of their course, you can apply for this when you are offered a college place.
