Recruitment Protocol

A crucial part of the pre-advertising process is obtaining the necessary financial approvals to be able to advertise. Generally speaking, for posts that are 80% or more funded internally by the department, this includes approval of the post by the Mathematical, Physical, and Life Sciences Division (MPLS) through the recruitment protocol process.

As of November 2020, the recruitment protocol process has been devolved to the Divisional level and further information on the practical operation of the protocol can be found here.

If you are unsure whether your post will require Recruitment Protocol, please contact the Recruitment Coordinator for help.

The MPLS Division addresses requests for new professional, administrative and support staff at a standard weekly meeting which takes place on Fridays. Requests must be submitted by no later than 12.00 noon on the preceding Wednesday to be considered at the next meeting.

Requests will be emailed by HR to the MPLS Recruitment Team and must include the following:

  • A completed MPLS Recruitment Request Form 
  • A copy of the job description for the proposed position(s)
  • An organisational chart for the team the new post(s) will sit within

The Recruitment Coordinator will work with you to complete the protocol request and job description, and be on hand to answer any questions you may have.

Note that the post request should not be approved, nor any other change actioned until the divisional approval has been confirmed. Once approved, we can submit a staff request in the HR system and proceed to advert.
