Adding printers under Windows 10 and 11

The following instructions describe how to add the departmental printers to a personal/departmental laptop running Windows 11.

For occasional printing, you may find it easier to use web print, your office desktop, or the Remote Access Portal (RAP) instead.

Connect to the MATHS Wi-Fi

You will need connect to the MATHS Wi-Fi network. This requires you to set up a Wi-Fi password, which should be different from your main Maths account password for security.

Please note that the MATHS Wi-Fi network has a limited pool of IP addresses, so phones/tablets are blocked from connecting.

One-Off Setup

Click the Start icon, search for "Command Prompt", right-click Command Prompt, then select "Run as administrator". Enter your Administrator password if prompted.

In the Command Prompt window, type:

ksetup /addkdc MATHS.OX.AC.UK

Then press the enter key. There will be no output from the command - just a new prompt. You can now close the window.

Adding a Printer

Click the Start icon, type \\print.maths.ox.ac.uk and press enter.

You will be prompted to enter your Maths IT account credentials, as used to login to departmental desktops. Enter your username in the form username@MATHS.OX.AC.UK, where "MATHS.OX.AC.UK" must be in capitals, followed by your password. Optionally, tick "Remember my credentials".

A list of printers will be displayed. Double-click the one you want to use (see the List of printers for your nearest one) and it will be installed automatically. If you are prompted "Do you trust this printer?", click "Install driver".

Known Issues

If Windows will not accept your username and password, check that (1) you have completed the ksetup step above, and (2) you are entering your username in the format username@MATHS.OX.AC.UK (lowercase username, uppercase domain), and (3) you are entering the correct password.

If you get the an error with the code 0x00000bc4, 0x00000709 or 0x000006d1, please download this registry file and run it. Windows will ask you whether you want to import the settings in this file into the Registry - say Yes. Then restart your computer and try adding the printer again.
