I'm sure many of you have missed the gentle reminder that the Open Access compliance monitor sends out weekly. Well, it is now back in action to remind you to check all your research papers have been deposited to the Oxford Research Archive in a timely manner. They are getting serious next door as preparations begin for the new Humanities Building, including the arrival in the week to come of a crane and 20 "welfare cabins". We will keep you informed on a regular basis as the work progresses.

As mentioned last week, we livestreamed the Open Day on Wednesday, or at least the excellent first three talks from James Munro (Maths at Oxford), Vicky Neale (Pure Maths) and Ian Griffiths (Applied Maths). If you want to know what we are telling our future students then why not dip in. Turnout was also very good, suggesting that there is still an appetite for in-person Open Days. Or even more of an appetite.

In 2021 Researchers working on the open source battery modelling software PyBaMM, including Oxford Mathematician Robert Timms, received the Faraday Institution Community Award for Collaboration. This award recognises outstanding examples of innovation and progress through teamwork and multi-university, multi-disciplinary and/or academic-industry collaboration. The software started out in Oxford in 2018 under the supervision of Jon Chapman.

From June 27th, in the Reception area of the Mathematical Institute, Oxford artist Andy Bullock is displaying a large floor-based work titled ‘All we ever wanted was everything / 24.02.22 (for Ukraine)’ constructed using 70 metres of metal trunking.

The International Congress of Mathematicians 2022 (ICM 2022) will take place as a virtual event over 6–14 July 2022 and for the first time they are livestreaming the Medals Ceremony (taking place in Helsinki) on Tuesday 5th July at 8am UK time, including the Fields Medal, widely regarded as the highest honour a young mathematician can attain.

If you would like to watch in the comfort of L1, we shall be streaming the ceremony and providing breakfast.

Andrea Giudici joined this week as Postdoctoral Research Associate in Applied Mathematics working with Ian Griffiths and Dominic Vella in OCIAM.
