Accessing Lecture Videos (Panopto/Replay)

Log into Moodle with your SSO account to access lecture videos and livestreamed lectures. You will then see a "Lecture Videos" link in most courses.

Do not go directly to Panopto, as you will be logged into the wrong account (see below).

Moodle vs Canvas

Both Moodle (used by the Mathematical Institute) and Canvas (used by other departments) use Panopto (also known as "Replay Oxford") for lecture videos, but they each create a separate Panopto account for you behind the scenes. This can create some difficulties if you end up logged in with the wrong account at the wrong time.[1]

If you are taken to the "Canvas Login" screen, please do not log in - you will be logged into the wrong account.

If you are logged in automatically and see "You do not have access to view this session" with a "Request Access" button, please do not click it - it will spam admin staff and won't get you access. Instead, please return to the course in Moodle and browse to the video again from there - this should log you into the correct account automatically.

To avoid this situation, we recommend you:

  1. Don't bookmark or share links directly to Panopto (anything starting with https://ox.cloud.panopto.eu/), because it will default to your Canvas login.
  2. Don't try to access Canvas videos at the same time as Moodle videos - although you could use a different browser for each.

Need Help?

If you are still unable to access the videos and you require assistance, please contact IT support (@email). Please include details of the problem, with URLs and screenshots where possible, to help us resolve the problem faster.

1. To check which account you are logged into, click your initials in the top-right corner of Panopto. It will either say "Provider: unified", meaning Canvas, or "Provider: moodle-maths". Some other departments may have their own identity providers.
