Transfer and Confirmation of Status
Transfer of Status
Transfer of status should normally be completed by the end of your fourth term. You must ensure that you allow sufficient time between submitting your application for transfer of status and your transfer viva/presentation.
In order for your Transfer of Status to be considered complete by the end of your fourth term you must have applied for Transfer of Status, submitted the transfer thesis and undergone a transfer viva/ presentation by Friday of 0th week of your fifth term.
In preparation for Transfer of Status, you must:
- Complete at least one broadening course.
- Teach the required number of intercollegiate classes.
To make a Transfer of Status application you must:
- Complete form GSO.2 via Student Self Service for transfer from PRS to DPhil status.
- Upload your Research Integrity Training Certificate to your Transfer of Status application in Student Self Service.
- Upload your work for your Transfer of Status assessment, which should be between 25-50 pages of LATEX, with a font no smaller than 11pt, to your Transfer of Status application in Student Self Service.
In consultation with you, your supervisor will nominate two assessors, subject to departmental approval, who will read your submitted work and then interview you. Normally the assessors will be permanent members of the department, and the Director of Graduate Studies should be consulted if anyone else is being proposed.

Confirmation of Status
Confirmation of Status should normally happen in your third year. In any case confirmation of status for DPhil students must take place no later than your ninth term after admission. In order for Confirmation of Status to be considered complete by the end of your ninth term you must have applied for Confirmation of Status in Student Self Service, uploaded your confirmation work to your application, and undergone a confirmation viva/presentation by Friday of 0th week of your tenth term.
In preparation for Confirmation of Status, you must:
- Complete all broadening courses.
- Complete the teaching requirement.
To make a Confirmation of Status application you must:
- Complete form GSO.14 in Student Self Service.
- Upload your work for your Confirmation of Status assessment to your application in Student Self Service. This should include:
- The planned list of chapters for your DPhil thesis.
- An outline of the content of each chapter, highlighting research achievements to date and work remaining to be completed.
- A detailed presentation of some results, e.g. a completed chapter.
- A timetable for submission.
