Involvement in the life of the department

Many graduate students contribute significantly to the life of the department beyond their immediate research and teaching activities, which helps the department to thrive! 

What can you do?

Here are examples of activities you can become involved in:  

• Become a Graduate Coordinator for your Research Group, helping to coordinate graduate student volunteering in that Research Group. Contact the Seminar Organiser in your research group.
• Help with Happy Hour. Follow the Mathematical Institute Bulletin to find out more.
• Join the Consultative Committee for Graduates (CCG) or become a graduate representative on another Departmental committee. Contact the relevant committee secretary to volunteer.
• Run a Junior Seminar or Group Meeting for your Research Group. Contact the Seminar Organiser in your research group.
• Help with outreach activities. Contact the Admissions and Outreach Coordinator to discuss volunteering.
• Help with Fridays@4, a programme of events covering important aspects of academic life and the next steps in your career.
• Help with Mathematrix, a discussion group about life in academia and matters faced by minorities.  
• Be a 'buddy' for a new graduate student.
