Department Committee

The committee consists of:
Head of Department (Chair, ex officio)
Associate Head of Department (People) ex officio;
Associate Head of Department (Research) ex officio;
Associate Head of Department (Education) ex officio;
Chair of the Faculty of Mathematics, ex officio;
Chair of Finance Committee, ex officio;
Chair of External Relations and Outreach Committee, ex officio; 
[Whitehead Librarian] to be invited as and when required;
[Safety Officer] to be invited as and when required;
Four members elected by the Faculty of Mathematics in Trinity Term;
Up to four co-opted members;
The Head of Administration and Finance, the Head of Faculty Services and HR, and a member of administrative staff (for minutes) are in attendance;
Postdoc Representative (open agenda only);
Postgraduate Student Representative (open agenda only);
Undergraduate Student Representative (open agenda only);
Director of IT and Physical Resources to attend meetings for items concerned with IT. To be invited as and when required;

The committee meets at 11.00 am on Wednesday of 3rd and 8th week of each term. The committee advises the HOD on all matters of policy concerning the department, including the allocation of resources and strategic planning. It reports through the HOD to the Mathematical Physical and Life Sciences (MPLS) Divisional Board. All references to the ‘Department’ below are to be understood to mean HOD acting on the advice of the Department Committee. The Secretariat is provided by the Head of Administration, with the PA to the HoA acting as Working Secretary. Reports of its business are made available to members of the department, except on such matters as the committee decides are confidential because they relate to individuals or for other reasons.

Elected members serve for two years from 1 October to 30 September, and may not normally serve for more than two consecutive periods.
